GBP/USD surges to fresh highs ahead of Carney

FXStreet (Córdoba) - The GBP/USD picked up momentum and broke above the 1.7000/05 resistance area as investors await a speech by BoE Governor Carney and the Financial Stability Report.

GBP/USD breaks above 1.7000

The GBP/USD pierced through the 1.7000 level and accelerated to a fresh 2-day high of 1.7022 before easing slightly. The GBP/USD had lost the psychological level Wednesday after some dovish remarks from Carney, so today’s speech will attract a lot of attention.

GBP/USD technical levels

At time of writing, the Cable is trading at 1.7018, recording a 0.22% gain, with immediate resistances lining up at 1.7030 (Jun 24 high), 1.7062 (2014 high Jun 19) and 1.7100 (psychological level) ahead of 1.7180 (Oct 10 2008 high).

On the flip side, supports are now seen at 1.6951 (Jun 25 low), 1.6920 (Jun 18 low) and 1.6900 (psychological level).
