European stocks mixed, Stoxx 600 headed for weekly gains

FXStreet (Córdoba) - European stocks opened mixed Friday although the Stoxx Europe 600 advanced for a third consecutive day and is on track for weekly gains.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.11% to 348.55, extending its weekly advance to 0.4%. Among country-specific indexes, UK FTSE 100 gained 0.27%. Germany's DAX 30 and Spain’s Ibex 35 were nearly flat. France’s CAC 40 dropped 0.0.7% and Italy’s FTSE MIB lost 0.41%.

Dovish comments from Fed Chair Janet Yellen earlier in the week spurred expectations the bank will keep rates at record lows for some time and continued to push indexes closer to multiyear highs.

In the FX market, majors remain little changed on the day, with the pound among the top performers, still trading near 6-year highs above 1.7050.

As for commodities, gold eased from 2-month highs and it was last down 0.38% at $1309 an ounce. Meanwhile crude oil was down 0.09% at $106.33 a barrel.

EUR/USD retreated from 1.3633 on European open trading at 1.3610 at the moment.
