Wall Street closes with gains after a furious bounce

FXStreet (San Francisco) - The US stocks market closed Monday with sharply gains as investors digested well a better than expected retail sales March report.

Wall Street performed positive almost the whole session; however major indexes declined in the hour ahead of the closing bell with the Nasdaq posting losses briefly. At the end, the indexes bounced to close with gains.

The Dow Jones rallied 146.49 points or 0.91% to finish the day at 16,173.24; the S&P 500 advanced 14.92 pts or 0.82% to close at 1,830.61; while the Nasdaq climbed 22.96 pts or 0.57% to recover the 4,000 level, to turn into the positive field YTD and to close at 1,830.61.

GBP/USD right where it started

With no data coming from the UK, Pound had a pretty uneventful day, with the GBP/USD spending ending the US session where it started past Asian one, around 1.6725
