Australian PM Turnbull: ‘Have petition for meeting, as soon as verified will call meeting’

The latest headlines crossing the wires around the Australian political environment are from the PM Turnbull, as he confirms that “I have just been provided with a request for a meeting of the Parliamentary Liberal Party. It has 43 signatures. As soon as they are verified by the Whips, which should not take long, the meeting will be called.”

This comes after Australia’s Solicitor-General Stephen Donaghue declared former home affairs minister Peter Dutton eligible to remain in parliament, removing one obstacle to him contesting an expected leadership ballot later in the day.
