Deutsche Bank's peak restructuring year, negotiations stalling
Deutsche Bank has failed to find an accord with the U.S. Justice Department, as recently reported in Bloomberg from Germany's Bild newspaper's article.
Germany's largest lender has been fined a $14 billion opening settlement bid by the U.S. Justice Department to pay and resolve alleged misconduct arising from the bank's dealings in residential-mortgage backed securities that contributed to the 2008 financial crisis. However, there are concerns about Deutsche Bank’s ability to pay the $14 billion opening settlement bid that has sent the lender’s stock to a record low last month.
The bank's Chief Executive Officer John Cryan has said, "The lender may fail to be profitable this year after posting the first annual loss since 2008 last year. With plans to eliminate thousands of jobs and cut risky assets, he called 2016 a peak restructuring year," reported Bloomberg.
