US economy adds 151,000 jobs in August, unemployment rate unchanged at 4.9%
US nonfarm payrolls rose by a seasonally adjusted 151,000 in August, the Labor Department said Friday. Employment growth slowed from July’s 255,000 and came in below the 180,000 expected by analysts.
The US unemployment rate stood unchanged at 4.9% in August. Revisions showed US economy added 1,000 fewer jobs in June and July than previously estimated.
Average hourly wages rose 0.1% to $25.73, increasing 2.4% from August 2015 to August 2016.
