US: New home sales jump in April

Sales of new homes rose 16.6% in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 619,000, the Commerce Department said Tuesday. That was the fastest pace since January 2008.

The strong reading also beat expectations of a 2% increase to an annual rate of 523,000.
