USD/MXN hits 2-week highs above 16.40

FXStreet (Córdoba) - USD/MXN reached a fresh high for August as it climbed above 16.40. The pair started the day slightly above 16.20 and then rose as the US dollar strengthened in the market after economic data.

Price was holding near the highs, headed toward the first daily close above 16.40 ever. The US dollar is rising against all Latin-American currencies.

Banxico minutes

Today the Bank of Mexico release the minutes of the July 30 meeting when it left interest rates unchanged. According to the minutes, on member, out of five, of the board, preferred a rate hike, in order to take a preventive position amid the imminent rate hike in the US. But the other members opted to leave rates unchanged in an environment of low inflation and moderate growth.

EUR/GBP holds bullish tone

The euro dropped during the Asian and the European sessions against the pound but then reversed and erased losses. EUR/GBP bottomed at 0.7101 but then bounced to the upside.
