GBP/USD keeps gains around 1.5400

FXStreet (Edinburgh) - The sterling is trading on the right footing vs. the US dollar on Thursday, with GBP/USD now returning to the vicinity of 1.5400 the figure.

GBP/USD focus on BoE

After bottoming out in the 1.5320 area on Wednesday, the pair managed to regain the 1.5400 handle following a resurgence of the risk appetite trends. A generalized risk-on trade seems to have re-emerged on hopes of a EU-Greece deal over the weekend, although market participants keep waiting PM A.Tsipras to submit the list of new proposals to the EU institutions at some point today.

Data wise in the UK, the BoE is expected to leave both the refi rate and the bond-buying programme unchanged at today’s meeting, while May’s trade balance figures are due tomorrow.

GBP/USD levels to consider

As of writing the pair is advancing 0.14% at 1.5384 with the next hurdle at 1.5423 (high Jul.9) ahead of 1.5467 (high Jul.8) and finally 1.5628 (high Jul.6). On the other hand, a break below 1.5330 (low Jul.8) would open the door to 1.5221 (low Jun.8) and then 1.5190 (low Jun.5).
